Preparation for BREAST ENLARGEMENT Procedure

The first thing that needed to be done when you decide to have a breast enhancement procedure is to consult a doctor. Talk about your objectives and your medical history. During the consultation, the surgeon will check your breast – the size and shape, the skin's elasticity, and the placement of the nipples.

Having checked these things out, the doctor will then decide the proper surgical procedure that needs to done. It is important that during this time, the risk involved must be discussed. And when everything is settled, a preoperative checklist must be handed out to you and the schedule of the surgery will be finalized.  Be sure to voice out all of your questions and concerns during the consultation period.

Several weeks before the breast enhancement surgery

People who smoke or drink alcohol - or both - must discontinue the vice a month before the surgery. If it is hard for you to stop the vice, then at least minimize it. This is due to the fact that drinking alcohol and smoking reduce the blood's ability to clot. Thus the wound will heal slowly.

Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications must not be ingested because they heighten bleeding.  People who sleep on their side or their stomach must practice sleeping on their backs because they will
have to sleep this way for several days after the surgery until the wound is healed.

A week before the breast enhancement surgery

You should do all the shopping and laundry that needs to be done because you are not allowed to perform strenuous tasks after the surgery.   Prepare soft ice packs or an ice bag to aid in minimizing the swelling after the procedure.  Start drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily to keep your body hydrated for the surgery.  This may also help in easing the nausea brought about by general anesthesia.

A day before the breast enhancement surgery

If you are a smoker or drinker and just minimized but have not totally stopped the vice a month before, then you must not smoke or drink 24 hours prior to the breast enhancement surgery. In addition to that, consult your doctor if he requires a fasting period before the procedure.   Prepare all the things that you will need in the hospital. Be sure to bring clothes which are loose.  Avoid any nicks under the arm or near the breast area when you decide to shave before the surgery. Do not put creams, lotion or ointment near and around the breast area.

After all these preparations, there is no need to be bothered about the things you should do on the day of the breast enhancement procedure itself.  Just bear in mind not to go to the hospital with your jewelry and make up on. Steer clear of creams, oils and lotions especially on the skin around the neck, chest and breast.  Talk to your surgeon about last minute concerns and reassurances.
